With every woman with PCOS comes a different set of medications, if they choose to take them. In this post, I will explain what medications I take and how they contribute to my well being. At the end, I will explain medications I have chosen to no longer take, and why.
Medications I currently take:
I am currently taking 4 prescription and 3 over the counter medications to help manage my PCOS. Those are: Spirnolcatone, Mirena, Doxycyclin, Omeprozal, Prozac and a Muti Vitamin w/ Iron & A Vitamin D supplement.
Each medication broken down:
Spironolactone works by lowering the level of androgens (my doctor tells me it’s like a sponge soaking up water), which lessens hair growth and improves acne.
In April of 2019, I decided to get a Mirena IUD to manage my PCOS. I chose to do this for 3 reasons: regulation of hormones, contraception and endometrial protection for several years.
